It’s not a secret that I don’t care for winter, I have groaned on about many times. As winter starts I am often guilty of counting the days until spring arrives.
However, I do appreciate winter for what comes after. While living in Florida, and thoroughly enjoying the warm winter, the arrival of spring was less exciting. Going through a cold, snowy, often dreary winter leads to joy when the first signs of spring show up.
But as many mid-westerners know, there is not just 4 seasons in a year and spring is the perfect example of this, it goes something like this:
Fool’s Spring
Second Winter
Spring of Deception
Third Winter (I think we are here right now)
Actual Spring
We recently went through the Spring of Deception and I took advantage of the 70 F (21 C) degree days and headed out to grab some images of spring arriving. There were a few photos that came out of this that I was particularly enamored with.
The first is the blooming Wayfaring Tree, I love the way the light is falling on the blooms and leaves. Highlighting the textures of the leaves and the reddish tint of the flowers.
The next image is another tree, this time a flowering Crabapple. I almost walked by this but the color of the flower caught my eye. After a closer look I really liked the imposing red leaves that are intersecting the flower petals. This is a favorite for the month.
This bud is either of an Ohio Buckeye or a Box Elder, since I am in O-H-I-O (how many if you said it? IYKYK) I am going to go with a the Buckeye, but I can’t say I have ever seen the actual buckeyes on this street so it is more than likely a Box Elder.
The last photo for this group is this Creeping Phlox also known as blue carpet. I loved the contrast of the texture of the warm sun lit brick wall with the light just starting to shine onto the flowers.
That is it for my round up of Third Winter, or spring if you like. Let me know in the comments or by replying what your favorite sign of spring is!
As I go, a couple of tulips… have a great week!
…yours truly, in third winter attire. :)
There is another subseason in spring. I call it autumnal spring and here in the Oslo region, we are experience it since yesterday 🫤
Lovely nature images.
