This edition of the photolog has been a long time coming, this trip was from June of 2022. It has taken me some time to get back to these photos and pull all my thoughts together around this trip. There is quite a bit to go through so there will be a part two.
It all started with an email newsletter from Sean Tucker, a photographer, a YouTuber and an author, with the gift of inspiring others. I have followed his work and videos for quite some time as well as making short work of his fantastic book The Meaning in the Making, (I have read it more than once). The newsletter stated he and designer and art director Vla Stanojevic were putting on a creative retreat in Siena, Italy in the Tuscany region.
This wasn’t another photography workshop like I normally see being advertised..
In the rush of our daily lives it’s often difficult to find inspiration, direction, and creative energy. We often need to step back, and out; to retreat in order to find our way forward again.
This retreat seemed like it might just be what I needed. Being in a rut and needing to break out of it, I hoped this would do the trick. It didn’t hurt that there was the option to have one on one time with both Sean and Vla to review ideas, branding, and critique work.
After some hesitation I booked the retreat, jumped on a plane and set off to Europe. Being 6’8” and flying really isn’t fun, not to mention the length of the travel was going to be 17-18 hours if everything was on time. Oddly enough, going there everything was on time, the trip home was not as perfect, more on that later.
I didn’t actually take many photographs there but there are a few that I would like to share. The image at the top of the newsletter is the 800 year old villa that I called home for a week as seen from the road.
Below is looking out of the dinning area (the second to last picture is the table where we shared our meals). The detached building in the first few images is the massage and spa room.
That is it for part 1, part 2 will be coming soon. There will be some images from the actual town of Siena as well as some photos I grabbed on a hike around the villa.
I am not listing these photographs for sale at this time. If you are interested in a print of one of them please contact me and I will work with you to create the print you want.
