Happy spring! Or is it? Here in Ohio it is hard to tell, one day it is 70F (21C) and the next it is 25F (-3C). Bright, warm, and sunny switches to cold and snowing with big wind gusts. As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather wait a minute and it will be different. Or some variation of that.
A favorite past time of mine, as long as I have had a drivers license, is jumping in the car and driving the country roads. Just seeing what I see, enjoying the warm air, music on the radio, no traffic to speak of except for the odd tractor or car going down the road. One of the reasons I like the country road drive is I can just take my time, meander about and take it all in.
On this particular day, it was an odd, early, warm day that we sometimes get. The sun was out, not a cloud in the sky, I just had to get out for a drive. There was no destination, I just wanted to get some fresh air and take in what winter had done to the landscape.
As I drove around, getting a bit turned around a time or two, that is part of the fun, I was taken back by some of the lush green crops coming up on the farms. Contrasted with the sky, it felt more like a summer day with the exception of the trees being bare.
At one point after getting turned around I ended up back on a road I had already gone down. The road had this amazing green field, a welcome sight after brown and grey winter days. I decided it was serendipity and found a little spot to pull off to park. Stretching my lens past the tree lined road I ended with the the below shot. Nothing remarkable, just a beautiful day, appreciating the sun reflecting off the grain silo off in the distance. The slight rolling hills green with their fresh growth, a sign that warmer days were near.
Photo taken, I walked back to my car and I saw a person coming down the road just over the hill. I presumed it was a cyclist and started to put my gear away. Just as I was about to zip up my camera bag I looked up an saw this was not a cyclist, this was a unicyclist, and he was eating as he pedaled. He smiled and I quickly grabbed my camera and took the opening photograph of the newsletter as well as the one below.
I really like the framing of the uni-cyclist between the two trees of the first one. Both capture the randomness of life, even out in the middle of rural Ohio.
